Jay Thomas, a native of New Orleans, is the son of a Texas oilman and a champion ballroom dancing southern belle. He is also a two time Emmy Award winning actor for his role as Jerry Gold on "Murphy Brown" and is equally well known around the world as Eddie Lebec from "Cheers." He has starred in his own sitcoms, ABC's "Married People" and CBS', "Love and War." Jay's been featured in "Law and Order/SVU", "Cold Case," "Joan of Arcadia," just to name a few, and has starred in numerous TV movies where he has portrayed everything from the commisioner of the NFL, a wheelchair bound cad, and even a hard driving English teacher killed by his own students.
On film, Jay has played opposite Richard Dreyfus in "Mr. Holland's Opus," Greg Kinnear in "A Smile Like Yours," Christine Lahti in "American Daughter," and Tim Allen in "Santa Claus Two and Three." Jay is starring in the soon-to-be-released National Lampoon's "Snatched," and American Pie's "Pool Boys."
His New York and Los Angeles stage credits include starring roles at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, and most recently at David Mamet's Atlantic Theatre NYC in Woody Allen's written and directed, "Writers Bloc."
As a host, Jay has MC'd CBS's New Years Eve Live from the Hard Rock with the Rolling Stones, Evening at the Improv, and he is a regular guest of The Late Show with David Letterman. Jay has been asked to comment on events of the day by Larry King, Bill Maher, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Hannity, The View, The Today Show, Fox and Friends, GMA, MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News. He is currently hosting two shows on the Travel Channel, "Ghost Stories," and "Mystery of the Museums."
Jay's stand up roots include The Improv, The Comedy Store, and Caroline's.
And let's not forget radio, where The Jay Thomas Morning Show started in the deep South and moved North and West to be top rated in NYC and LA. Jay's newest outlet is on SIRIUSXM Satellite, broadcasting all over the free world from outer space every weekday from 3-6PM EST.
